This Group was set up in 1995 with the aim of encouraging the collection, study, and dissemination, of information on all aspects of Hungarian railways.
We have attracted international interest from Australia, Europe, Japan, South Africa, and United States of America.

Members receive four magazines a year containing news, photographs, rolling stock details, historic articles, details of recent visits, and items of interest to modellers.  Coverage is also included in the magazine of tramway and underground systems.
The magazine is built up from personal reports by members, correspondents in Hungary, internet, and media sources.  Group members are frequent visitors to Hungary.

Hungary has much to offer the student of prototype operation, and also the modeller, with rolling stock of numerous countries to be seen in international trains.
Budapest is a hub of Central European rail traffic.

As well as standard gauge operations there are several narrow gauge lines operating, both of forestry or agricultural origin, and preservation, including the ”Children`s Railway” in the Budapest Hills.  Also in the city of Budapest is a rack railway.  Broad gauge (1524 mm) can be found by the border with Ukraine around Zahony.

Apart from older diesel and electric locomotives, multiple units, and rolling stock, both Magyar Állami Vasútok and Győr Sopron Ebenfurth Vasútok have introduced, or are introducing, new items.

MÁV Nosztalgia run steam trains during the summer months, and operate the Railway Historic Park in Budapest.  The main Transport Museum in Budapest has many items of rail interest. The HÉV system of Budapest has a museum at Szentendre, just north ofthe city.
GySEV operate a narrow gauge museum railway near Nagycenk in the west of the country.

Wherever possible we are always willing to give advice to potential visitors to Hungary.
